Tokyo Olympics 2020: US Women’s Soccer Team Beats New Zealand
The United States Women’s National Team has grabbed their first win in the ongoing 2020 Summer Olympics Women Football Games. The U.S. women’s team took care of business, rebounding from a deflating 3-0 loss to Sweden with a rotund 6-1 victory over New Zealand.
Team USA sits second place in Group G with one game left to play. They are leveled with 3 points with Australia but second with two goals advantage kind courtesy of 6-1 victory over New Zealand.
Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan, Christen Press, and Alex Morgan provided the goals for USA, and Betsy Hasett scored for New Zealand while Abby Erceg and Catherine Bott recorded own goals.
A win or draw against Australia will be enough to secure second place behind Sweden, which is flying. The Swedes followed up their 3-0 win over the USA with a 4-2 triumph over Australia.
Team USA only needs a draw against Australia to qualify the same applies to Australia. It’s going to be a tough game for both sides as it decides who joins Sweden on the gold medal chase.
